Customs delays alone can cause this to be longer, and the Post Office will not even allow a claim to be filed until 45 days have passed. International shipping for a single item is indeed expensive, but that same cost can cover up to about 8 ounces of items, so combining shipments can significantly reduce the average cost per item.
